On leaving school, in 1996 I joined a local firm of accountants where I trained firstly as an Accounting Technician, on gaining this qualification I progressed to training as a Chartered Accountant, which I achieved in 2001. During my time here I gained a wealth of experience working with all sizes of entities from sole traders to companies.
Since qualifying I have broadened my experiences within the Audit Team for a top ten firm, company accountant for a £60m turnover retailer, small accountancy practice with tax specialism’s and company accountant for a specialist engineering company. These positions have given me a great insight into a vast array of companies; it also gave me the knowledge that I much prefer working with smaller companies.
Through working as the head of finance, I have the experience of preparing monthly accounts, project cost analysis, payroll, CIS returns, sales & purchase ledger, credit control and preparation of the year end accounts & audit pack. During my time there I have overseen a change in accounting packages and implemented better reporting to the directors to ensure they have accurate financial information to aid them in running their business.
Having gained all this experience I realised that my forte was applying my knowledge to businesses on a monthly and quarterly basis providing invaluable assistance to the directors/owners of the company and providing a comprehensive accounts package.
This was the key deciding factor behind Bailey Wilson, I wanted to be able to provide this function to the wider public and give business owners the opportunity to grow their ideas without the worry of the finance function.
As well as working within the accountancy profession I have taught the AAT qualification at a national professional training company and local colleges. This proves invaluable when training clients and explaining accounting issues.
Having worked both within both accountancy practices and in industry I am in a position where I have seen accounts from both sides of the fence. I have the knowledge to assist the owners from the operational view and can also give them the accounting and taxation impact of their decision.
